About the Music
There is an ancient style of music unique to Lithuania which emerged from a marriage of Lithuanian Folk Music to traditional Gregorian Chant. There is nothing like it in the world. Despite this, during the Communist occupations of Vilnius and greater Lithuania, sacred music and art was forbidden and beautiful churches were transformed into barns, barracks, prisons, and one Vilnius church was even famously turned into an Atheist Museum. Since Lithuania declared her independence from the former Soviet Union in 1990 and a unified effort began to revive Lithuanian culture and preserve it. The Divine Mercy Choir, led by Director Gabija Vaičiulienė, it at the forefront of the effort and has performed across Europe and beyond.
